Cooking & Baking (Preschoolers/Primary Schoolers)

Food and language are inseparable because food is an essential part of a culture and a language is one of the most important parts of a culture. Food and Language activities also stimulates five senses that enhances learners’ engagement in language learning.

Cooking and baking activities can benefit children in many ways: developing fine motor skills and vocabulary, building knowledge of food and ingredients (including fruits and vegetables), learning science and math, fostering creativity, promoting a healthy diet, cultivating a love for eating and making food, improving language and sensory skills, mastering basic baking and cooking skills (such as knife skills), and, lastly, bonding with family and friends.

When children develop a love and curiosity for cooking and baking, they’ll want to help out in the kitchen more often, which will help nurture their confidence as they learn new skills.

The best tip for helping children improve their cooking and baking skills is to demonstrate the tasks in front of them, rather than simply directing them on what to do. Enjoy exploring our fun cooking and baking activity page below.
